Juerg doesn't just go on what he learned 15 years ago, he's always updating himself with what's new in Europe."
Geoff Kabush interview in CyclingNews.com: ...Kabush's coach is Juerg Feldmann. "He's originally from Switzerland where he was really involved in speed skating and biathlons," explained Kabush. "It was only when he moved to Canada that he got involved in mountain biking. He has a good background in physiology and we do a lot of scientific training and lactate testing etc and working with a PowerTap. Since the end of '95 has been a slow building process. I'm always learning new things and adding those into the program. He's a great coach. He sets our program and he really teaches us how to implement it well. I've worked with him for so long now that I really understand why we are doing things in a particular way."

The PortaMon is a wireless and portable NIRS system specifically for measurements on muscle tissue. The system measures the tissue saturation of the investigated muscle. Besides the Tissue Saturation Index in percentage the system also measures changes in oxygenation in terms of oxy-hemoglobin, deoxy-hemoglobin and total hemoglobin, which is an indication of the blood volume in the muscle. The system is totally non-invasive and features continous recording and feedback in real time via PC.
Typical applications of the PortaMon are found in sport science, training evaluation, high altitude research, etc.

Lactate measurement is used by sport scientists, coaches and athletes to accurately determine Heart Rate training zones, recovery and much more. Lactate is a metabolic product that can be measured by taking a drop of blood at a finger tip the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar level. The blood lactate level increases with exercise intensity and shows clearly the transition from aerobic to anaerobic activity. Since the measurement is completely individual it gives a precise method for testing and monitoring training intensity and recovery. Lactate measurement is far more precise than the outdated and inaccurate method of using percentages of maximum heart rate to set training zones. Because heart rate is an individual response, heart rate training zones need to be determined by measurement of physiological variables not set by mathematical formulas. The Lactate Pro is the only portable lactate analyzer validated for medical use in the US (clinical trial carried out at the Harvard Children's Hospital in Boston).

Hosand Aqua is the first and only system designed for use in water sports. Swimmers wear a specially designed vest that houses the heart rate chest strap and Hosand transmitter.
