Hi everyone,

I have been lurking here reading some very interesting and informative posts and now I would like to ask a more specific training question.

But first some background on myself, I am a Pro Triathlete and coach, I have worked with Steve Neal for the last 2years using Fact testing and balance point training. My balance point numbers have been good, I have tested as high as 320watts (Power Tap watts) and hr=170 for my balance point. Which to me indicates a pretty good aerobic system. My problem has been more one of correct fueling, both in training and racing I seem to have to eat a huge amount of food (long rides 70-100g of carb/hour in training more in racing) and yet it doesn't seem to be enough as I still get light headed and sore legs, in training this occurs in rides as short as 2hours some days as well as my long 5+ hour rides that where ridden at lbp -20/-40. The problem is worse while racing Ironman, and it is not a pacing issue as I have been very conservative in my last few races but I can't seem to keep a steady energy flow during the bike. I would have thought that after all my aerobic training and a fairly high lbp that I would be much better fat burner. My question is does anyone have any words of advise on what I can try differently to try and improve my fat burning. I am wondering if I am just not genetically set out to be a long distance triathlete.

Any thought's

Thanks

Nigel
