Hi Shane .Thanks for lucking in our Forum :
Answers to your Questions .
Some bad luck for you : I did he MAP test onece and based on our philosphy I can not get any help for the traqining out of this test.
We are more interesting of finding the intensity , where we can controle our training intensity.
Example : I give you 3 actual readings of some of our Athletes :
1. LBP ratio Athlete 1 4.8
2 4.7
3. 4.4
If we compare the actual LBP levels we can predict for the moment quit nicely , who is winning , if they race against each other in a race longer than 11/2 h.
Max. Watt out put is nice to test , but we do not believe . that you can use this number to produce
zones for your training.
Zones based on % are mathematical ideas and not physiological informations.
As Cris demonstarted in earlier answers, there is a lot of overlapping and changes going on and we actually like to do this ( remember periodization ) That's why periodization is so crucial , but again you can not take a day or week planer , you may have to accept the fact , that development of different stuctur need different time in different people . ( too many factors , like nutrition , training duration , intensity , mental situation , clima , temp. may influence the adaptation time. ) that's why we know so little. But tha's why so many coaches use mathematical formulas. How can you coach 100 athletes individually.
That brings us to you free training questions :
Yes , we do not charge our athletes. They stay for free in ourtcamps and get the physiological testing for free, plus food and all what comes with it.
Why : We have 5 athletes . ( that's for me and Herb the most we can honestly handle if we like to stick to individual coaching.
What do we get out:
A research information , who is not fixed on the famous 8 weeks.
In Spain I can test hundreds of people and see the functional changes a 6 /8/ 10 week training stress will produce.
With our athletes , we see now after 6 - 8 years what a real structural change is:
As we may discuss more on this site, there is a big differents between a functional respond over short time and a structural adaptation over long time.
To hang back on one part of Cris's inf :
Stay on the conservative site, may be one of the main keys of endurance training.
Problem : The most athletes ,parents but also coaches can not " wait " that long.
To your last question Taxc and compu trainer :
You may hope for an answere from Steve Neal from Hardwood Hills, actually may favorite real coach, he has experience with both , myself I only use Taxc. ( Money reason )
I hope I could give you some info back , otherwise come back and bug me again.
Sorry my writing , but no time for proof reading. Juerg.
