Question...is it the lungs that need oxygen or is it the Diaphragm and Intercostal Muscles that need the oxygen...these are the muscles that are used or that contract during inspiration...now I'm sure that they are very efficient at their job...but I don't know what the predominant fiber type in either of these two muscle groups (however I'm assuming type 1)...maybe the respiratory muscles are structurally set for for 17 breaths/minute so go on for ever...the problem is that during execise they have to increase the frequency of contraction (maybe even the force generated, but I'm not sure)...so with increased frequency there is a greater demand for energy production...maybe juerg was correct a few weeks ago when he said that perhaps intense training is should really be thought to increase the efficiency of the energy production of the breathing muscles...so how do we do this during the year?...I don't know much about powerlungs so I don't know...does powerlungs increase the maximal force that the breathing muscles can produce...are we looking for increases in absolute strength of the respiratory muscles?...Should I invest or ca I make my own...hmmm...just some thoughts...
