: Sorry I do not have a special training but still a question , because the answer I got will change completely my training philosophy.

not to worry, you have special knowledge and are willing to think rather than act on biases.

: My Question was : Is the adaptation to altitude the same for everybody.
: The answer was : Yes , the adaptation is the same for everybody.

I agree, at least pretty much.

: Now some points I have to make for myself :
: 1. If I work out I may stress my body and this may create an adaptation. ( Positive non or negative ) That's why I may do a workout.
: 2. Now if somebody moves to altitude than this may be a stress on this persons body. But I may be wrong.

No it is a stress. The higher the altitude the bigger the stress.

: 3.If I now have 10 people , and all 10 people are bench pressing with 100 kg , than everybody will have the same adaptation ?. I am not sure.

No, the 50 kg woman or man would have a different adaptation than a 100 kg man. Further the woman has a different adaption because she has less testosterone.

: 4. Now the same 10 people go in altitude , which will be the same stress on their system.?
: therefor the same adaptation?

: In an interesting symposium in April 2000 in London during the London marathon a group of Altitude specialists ( with possible specialized training )
: made a presentation , where they think , that individual people will respond differently in altitude.
: Some of the reasons were : Genetic ( muscle fiber constellation ) or different blood situation like hemoglobin situation , hematocrit , different nutritional habbits. Different hormonal respond on altitudeand so on .
: If this would be true , but they may be wrong , than the strss on this 10 people would be perhaps somewhat different. If the stress is different their adaptation respond may be different as well.

I would agree. Some people get seizures at altitude, others get brain swelling. There are clearly differences to this and all stresses. It is the job of the coach or athlete to understand this and try to figure out what the best stress for any athlete would be. Since it is not possible to know beforehand in any person this is where experience comes into play.

: So if they are right than the absolute Yes in the answer would be kind of wrong.
: Perhaps the answer on the question: is the adaptation the same could have been.

I think we could assume that the adaptations are similar in different people but they are not identical.

: We don't know for sure how the adaptation is , because it may be very individual and therefor it may be for coaches of some value to assess and find a way of getting some kind of a grip on the individual athletes respond.

I agree

: If the Yes is right , than I have as a little coach to stop producing individual training ideas , because everybody reacts the same . In fact if I have 10 people and put them on independant pedals , I thought I saw different adaptations , because this 10 people brought different situation with them and therefor the stress was different . But I may be wrong as well.

No, I am sure there would be 10 different experiences. 5 of them may be similar and 3 sort of similar and 2 very different.

: This could be as we learn here , because we do not have a special education and therefor not understand this properly.
: I hope readers are not discouraged from certain responds, and keep asking here and not e mail me.. The idea of the Forum is to keep it simple and open , but with a good back up from specialists.

Even those of us with special education cannot predict the differences in individuals. In anesthesia we learned how to adapt to different situations. I think the same occurs in coaching. The more experience one has the better advice one can give different athletes who have different experiences. It is when one gets into the cookie cutter approach, assuming that everyone is the same, that some of those who are different will get very bad advice.

: I like to let some points now settle , but will be back with some points of breathing and others. Have fun and do not take it too personal

Nothing personal here. I am trying to point out that optimizing performance is not easy. It, like medicine, is as much art as science.
