There are too many variables to give one perfect answer to this question. In fact blood lactate will continue to increase for a few minutes after stopping high intensity exercise abruptly. As far as the rate of decreasing lactate post exercise goes, that all depends on fitness level and the intensity and duration of the exercise.

If you are interested in seeing what the differences are, just test yourself to find out. That is the best way to obtain accurate data as it pertains to you as an individual. It can take 45 to 90 minutes for higher levels of lactate (over 7.mmol/l) to drop below 2.0 mmol/l in an unfit person who stops exercise abruptly with no cool down. Lactate clears more quickly with an aerobic cool down and when the subject is more fit.

While post exercise lactate is interesting, blood lactate levels durring exercise provides more useful data. Why the interest in post exercise lactate?
